Friends of Oberwolfach
Since 2005, the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (MFO) is a non-profit corporation (gemeinnützige GmbH) and a member of the German Leibniz Association. The main funding is shared by the German federal government and the governments of all the local states of Germany, with emphasis on the German local state of Baden-Württemberg. The legal owner of the site and of the buildings of the MFO is the "Gesellschaft für Mathematische Forschung e.V." (GMF). The site and the buildings were generously donated to the GMF by the VolkswagenStiftung in 1988.
In this situation, the funding of the basic part of the budget is stable. On the other hand, as this funding does not cover the whole budget, the Institute has to look for additional sources.
To support funding at the MFO, a non-profit society "Verein zur Förderung des Mathematischen Forschungsinstituts Oberwolfach" (Förderverein, Friends of Oberwolfach) has been founded. The present head of this society is Professor Dr. Ursula Gather at Dortmund University. The decision has been made by the Förderverein to support three main areas: support for the maintenance of the buildings, support for the library to keep it at its current level as one of the best mathematics libraries in the world, and travel support for participants of meetings in exceptional cases, e.g., mathematicians from eastern Europe or overseas. This way mathematicians will directly profit from the money collected by the society.
We should cordially like to invite you to either make a one-time donation or to join the Förderverein as a member and in this way to express your attachment to the Institute. Your contribution is tax deductible. As a member of the Förderverein, you will receive also the annual report of the MFO and additional information, and you can subscribe to the Oberwolfach Reports at a reduced prize.
