The Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (MFO, Oberwolfach Research Institute for Mathematics) is a research institute and meeting point for the world's leading mathematicians to exchange ideas about the most recent developments in their field, initiate new projects and connect with young scientists. Founded in 1944 the MFO has developed into an international research centre hosting almost 3000 scientists from all over the world each year. See the MFO's history website for further information.

The MFO is a member of the Leibniz Association, financed by the German federal government and the governments of all the local states of Germany. Moreover, the MFO is supported by the Friends of Oberwolfach (Förderverein), by the Oberwolfach Foundation and further organisations. Read more about the funding.


The Director of the MFO together with the Vice-Director is legally responsible for the budget and administration of the Institute. He issues all invitations to the Institute and coordinates the scientific program with the Scientific Committee of the Institute. See the website of the Director.
