Meal options

The MFO attaches great importance to offer you a wide choice of meals during your stay. You can choose one of five meal categories for lunch and dinner. Please let us know your choice in advance, otherwise we need to assume that you prefer the standard meal. Kindly note, that a selection is necessary for each single stay (we do not store your choice for future visits) and the selection then applies to the entire stay (switching from day to day is not possible).

We offer

• a standard meal (may include all kinds of vegetable and animal products; at least one meal per day is meatless)
• a vegetarian meal (excludes meat, fish and seafood; milk products and eggs may be included)
• a vegan meal (excludes all sorts of animal products).

Further on, we can consider

• non-celiac gluten sensitivity
• lactose-intolerance.

We kindly ask for your sympathy that additional individual requests cannot be fulfilled. The lack of additional room in the dining hall does not allow us to serve a suitable equipped buffet. Many participants in the past have felt that sticking to the vegetarian or vegan option always available met their dietary restrictions. Note, that usually the meals are not served as plated portions and you can always decide how much you take from a certain component.

If you feel uncomfortable with any of the offered options we can recommend the restaurants Hotel Hirschen and Hotel Walkenstein nearby the institute where additional preferences might be considered. A bakery is also close by.

Fruits, snacks and drinks

We offer a fruit basket on the bar of our dining room every day. In our snack cupboards you can find a variety of sweet and salty snacks, nuts and in addition special diet products. Cold drinks are provided in the drawers at the bar in the dining hall and opposite the large lecture hall. Hot drinks are available all day at the machines in front of the large lecture hall.

The guest house and the bungalows offer comfortable accommodations, each with own bathroom facilities. Special accommodations, including kitchenettes and additional working spaces, are provided for our long-term guests in the Oberwolfach Research Fellow and Oberwolfach Leibniz Fellow programs.

People with special needs

There are two barrier-free guestrooms for people with special needs. If an assistant or a nurse is required due to severe physical limitations, we will also try to accommodate them at the Institute, depending on our capacity. On request, we can help finding a regional medical supply store that temporarily rents medical products and aids required for care (e.g. nursing beds or wheelchairs, etc.). Please contact us in due time prior to your stay.

Researchers with small children

A small number of our rooms are suitable for researchers who travel with small children. Please contact us in due time prior to your stay, in order to check if accommodation at the Institute is possible. Otherwise we can also provide contacts to suitable accommodations nearby. Please also contact us if we should try to help you to arrange child care. Our information leaflet provides details on how to we can support you. Kindly note, that a prior application is necessary and capacity and funds are limited.
