New Book on the Early History of Oberwolfach Conferences Published

Edited by Maria Remenyi and Volker Remmert, the volume brings together contributions by historians of science, mathematicians and historians of mathematics. The authors examine the evolving conference traditions in Oberwolfach between 1945 and 1960.

The studies trace the development of the MFO from the “Reichsinstitut für Mathematik”, founded in 1944, into an internationally recognized conference venue characterized by a distinctive atmosphere of close scientific and personal exchange. At the same time, they show the importance of the meetings in Oberwolfach for the disciplinary development of mathematics in postwar Germany. We are deeply grateful to all contributors who made these fascinating insights possible!

The book has been published open access in digital form and is available via the institute's publication server. A printed hardcover edition will also be available at the institute, soon.
