New Grants to Support International Cooperation

Simons Visiting Professors

The Simons Visiting Professors (SVP) program has been relaunched, offering distinguished mathematicians from institutions outside Europe the opportunity to combine participation in an Oberwolfach meeting with a research visit to a European university or research institute. The program is funded by the Simons Foundation. It is designed to benefit the scientists, the MFO and participating institutions equally by making efficient use of travel funds and travel time in carefully planned combined visits. This also helps to disseminate new research results quickly from Oberwolfach activities directly to a wide audience of researchers and students at participating universities.

China-Oberwolfach Fellows

The China–Oberwolfach Fellowship (COWF) is a joint initiative with the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications. The program provides outstanding graduate students and early-career researchers from China with the opportunity to participate in scientific conferences at the MFO. Up to 60 fellowships annually can be supported. Further information on the program, eligibility criteria, and the application process is available at the webpage of the program.

Open Calls for Applications to Participation

Oberwolfach Seminars 2026

Ph.D. students and postdocs are invited to apply for the Oberwolfach Seminars in 2026. The seminars are organized by leading experts in the field, and address to promising early career researchers from all over the world. The aim is to introduce the participants to a particular interesting development. The Institute covers board and lodging. By the support of the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation, travel expenses can be reimbursed up to 150 EUR in average per person (against copies of travel receipts). The number of participants is restricted to 24.

Arbeitsgemeinschaft in Spring 2027

Every year in spring and in autumn, there are week-long Arbeitsgemeinschaften (study groups) in Oberwolfach with about 50 participants. The idea of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft is to learn by giving one of the lectures on the topic under study. The topic of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft in spring 2027 was recently announced. Oberwolfach Research Fellows and Oberwolfach Leibniz Fellows

Small groups of researchers who want to come for a more extended period to Oberwolfach to carry out joint research in the stimulating atmosphere of the MFO can apply as Oberwolfach Research Fellow (OWRF). For fresh post-docs, it is additionally possible to apply for a Leibniz Fellowship in order to become an Oberwolfach Leibniz Fellow (OWLF). Within OWLF applications as a single researcher are also possible. Projects from all areas of mathematics can be supported by these programs, in particular, interdisciplinary research and cooperation is encouraged.

In view of the good audio-video facilities at the MFO, there is an option to apply for an OWRF research stay which includes a hybrid cooperation with a parallel research group at another place in the world. This can be a university or another research institute with a substantial distance to the MFO, usually outside Europe. It is up to the applicants to arrange such a cooperation with the other university or institute and to submit an additional application there if necessary.

Open Calls for Proposals

Oberwolfach Workshops 2028

The deadline for proposals of Oberwolfach Workshops in 2028 is 31 July 2026. The decision on the proposals by the Oberwolfach Scientific Committee is scheduled to the end of October 2026. Please carefully check the description of the program and our guidelines for proposals of an Oberwolfach Workshop, in particular the policy concerning the continuous renewal of teams of organizers.

Oberwolfach Mini-Workshops 2027

The fixed weeks and deadlines to propose an Oberwolfach Mini-Workshop in 2027 are

* This week is reserved for Tandem-Workshops (deadline: September of the previous year). If no Tandem-Workshop is approved the week can be used for Mini-Workshops (deadline: January of the same year).

There will be additional reserved weeks for Mini-Workshops in winter 2027 with dates to be published soon.

For each of these weeks the decision about the Mini-Workshops takes place about 3 weeks after the corresponding deadline for application. Applications should be sent as pdf-files to the Director Prof. Gerhard Huisken, via proposals@mfo.de. See also our guidelines for proposals.

Oberwolfach Seminars 2027

The seminars address to excellent and promising graduate students and post docs. The aim is to introduce the participants to a particular hot development. There will be capacity for 6 seminars in 2027, the free slots are as follows:

MaRDI Newsletter

The latest MaRDI newsletter features a Data Date interview and short stories introducing MaRDMO, a service that helps researchers document, connect, and share mathematical models, interdisciplinary workflows, and algorithms. The newsletter also informs on workshops, science events, and upcoming events related to research data management.

MaRDI Survey

MaRDI invites mathematicians worldwide to participate in a survey on the current state of mathematical research data. The feedback will help them better understand practices within the mathematical community and guide the development of services that meet researchers' needs. The survey offers two participation options:

• Short survey: approximately 1 minute
• Extended survey: approximately 5–10 minutes with the opportunity to provide more detailed insights

The survey will remain open until the end of July and is anonymous. MaRDI will present the survey findings in its next regular newsletter in September.
